Transcode Sony FS7 XAVC to ProRes for Final Cut Pro

Learn a quick guide on how to import and edit Sony FS7 XAVC in Final Cut Pro smoothly. 



I wanna edit some XAVC files from Sony FS7 with Final Cut Pro, but the program can't import these files correctly. Searching relevant forums, I know XAVC is a highly compressed long-GOP codec. Nice to have small files even with 4k/UHD but it will stress your processors no matter which NLE you choose. So, it's not easy to work Sony FS7 XAVC in Final Cut Pro directly.

Import Sony FS7 XAVC into Final Cut Pro X for further editing

1. Install and launch the XAVC to ProRes Converter, and then click "Add Video" button to import Sony PXW-FS7 XAVC files.



2. Click on the "Format" bar and get the dropdown menu, then move your pointer to choose "Final Cut Pro> Apple PreRes 422" or "Apple ProRes 422 HQ" or "Apple ProRes 4444" as the output format.



Tips: In case the default settings do not fit your requirement, you can click "Settings" button and enter "Profile Settings" panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels.

3. Click Convert button to start transcoding XAVC to ProRes for Final Cut Pro on Mac OS X.

Once the conversion completes, you can click "Open" to find the .MOV videos. Now it's easy for you to edit Sony FS7 footage with FCP. Enjoy.
