Working DJI Spark MP4 with Final Cut Pro X

This article covers the best solution to importing and editing DJI Spark footage in Final Cut Pro X.

So I recorded some footage on the DJI Spark today and decided to see how it looks. I imported it into Final Cut Pro X, the program failed to recognize the file. After reading several different post here I put together a working workflow how to import DJI Spark video to FCP X beautifully.

Based on our testing, the issue is probably caused by the H.264 codec from DJI Spark. It is an outstanding distribution format, but it is not a good editing format. If you try to edit H.264 in FCP X natively, you will start to lose image quality as you do color correction or composite gradients to create greenscreen keys. There just isn't a lot of room to work. To import and edit DJI Spark MP4 in Final Cut Pro X flawlessly, a good suggestion is to transcode DJI Spark MP4 to Prores for FCP X.

The utility to fulfill the task I'm using is Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac. This Mac Video Converter can help you directly wrap DJI Spark MP4 to FCP most compatible Apple Prores in various different file types. What's more, it's the optimal tool for transcoding GoPro, Sony, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, etc camera or camcorder videos to kinds of NLE programs Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, FCE and more. Just download it and follow the simple guide to achieve your goal.

Below is a tutorial on how to transcode DJI Spark MP4 to ProRes for Final Cut Pro X:

1. Import MP4 videos to the software

Once run the DJI Spark video converter, you can click "Add Video" button to load .mp4 source files. Convert supports batch conversion, so you are allowed to add multiple files to convert at a time.

2. Select the output format

Click "format" bar and choose "Final Cut Pro -> Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)" as Final Cut Pro X compatible codec for editing DJI Spark footage in FCP X smoothly. ProRes 422(HQ), Pro Res 422(LT), Pro Res 444, Pro Res 422(Proxy) are all the proper choice.

Tip: Tap "settings" to customize the output parameters- adjust the video size, bitrate, frame rate, audio sample rate, audio channel, etc to get a decent video for editing in Final Cut Pro.

3. Start conversion
